Discover Sarasota Tours will resume five of its most popular sightseeing trolley tours starting with its city tour and haunted tour on June 19, with 90-minute tours running Thursdays through Sundays. The city, psychic, tiki trivia, circus and haunted tours will be offered in rotation; visit their website for the schedule.
Company owner Tammy Hauser, who coped with the COVID-19 pandemic by pivoting to driving her Chillmobile ice cream truck after temporarily shutting down her sightseeing trolley tours (you can read our blog here), says she’s hopeful interest will be high enough to expand the schedule more fully. “We’ve had a lot of calls; it depends if people buy tickets,” she says. “I’m hopeful, it’s a forward moving thing.”
Hauser has teamed with SRQ Trolleys to purchase a UV-light sanitation system to deep-clean the trolleys. Tour-goers’ temperatures will be taken before each trolley tour, and masks will be encouraged. The first rows of seats will be blocked off to provide social distance from the tour guide and driver.
Meanwhile, Hauser is still operating her Chillmobile through the summer. And for grown-ups, she’s introduced a “driveway happy hour” concept, selling boozy popsicles in neighborhoods and condo communities. “We’re booked every night through June,” she says. “It’s a huge hit. People want to connect with their neighbors, but they want us to come to them.”
